Jeffrey S. Klein, M.D., Appointed RSNA President

Jeffrey S. Klein, M.D., has been named president of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Board of Directors, assuming the role at the Society’s annual meeting. A leading authority in thoracic imaging, Dr. Klein brings more than 40 years of clinical, academic, and editorial experience to the position.
Dr. Klein currently serves as a consultant to the Department of Radiology at the VA White River Junction Healthcare System in Vermont. He is widely recognized for his work in lung cancer diagnosis and staging, and for his editorial leadership, having served as editor of RadioGraphics from 2012 to 2020 and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Thoracic Imaging from 2000 to 2005.
In his new role, Dr. Klein will guide RSNA’s efforts to advance global education, research, and technology in radiology, with a particular focus on developing responsive, high-quality learning tools.

A Brooklyn native, Dr. Klein earned his undergraduate degree at Brooklyn College in 1980 and received his M.D. from the SUNY Health Science Center in 1983. He completed residency training at Staten Island Hospital and SUNY Kings County, followed by a fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center.
His academic career spans appointments at UCSF, San Francisco General Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, where he led thoracic imaging and helped direct the radiology residency program. In 1995, he joined the University of Vermont, where he spent nearly three decades in roles ranging from vice chair of radiology to the endowed A. Bradley Soule and John P. Tampas Green and Gold Professor of Radiology.
Dr. Klein has been a member of RSNA since 1984 and has contributed to nearly every facet of the Society, including the Scientific Program Committee, Education Council, and the Finance Committee. He joined the RSNA Board of Directors in 2018 and has since served as Board Liaison for Publications, Secretary-Treasurer, and most recently, as Board Chair.
Beyond RSNA, he has held leadership roles with the Society of Thoracic Radiology, the American College of Radiology (ACR), and the American Board of Radiology. He has also served on a U.S. Department of Justice panel tasked with developing CT protocols for uranium miners under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Klein has long contributed to RSNA’s case-based review courses and remains a familiar face in thoracic imaging sessions at the annual meeting. At the University of Vermont College of Medicine, he served as associate dean for continuing medical education and was recognized by the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
As he steps into the RSNA presidency, Dr. Klein brings a deep understanding of academic radiology, a passion for education, and a clear vision for shaping the Society’s evolving role in global healthcare.
